There are TONS of beers in the US with high (or really high) alcohol content!. Most of them are IPAs, Imperial IPAs and Russian Imperial Stouts; though I've seen others!.
The trick is that you have to look at so-called micro-brews (or breweries with limited production and distribution)!. The selection will vary depending on where in the US you are!. There are a lot of good choices, but I'll stick to recommending the one's that I drink the most frequently and which seem to be the most readily available:
90 minute IPA - Dogfish Head Brewing (9% ABV): This IPA is so hoppy that it almost feels like it cuts your tongue the first time you sip it!. But it's really floral and tasty and pairs really well with spicy foods!.
Arrogant Bastard Ale - Stone Brewing (7!.2% ABV): Listed as an "American Strong Ale" it's got both the bitterness a good beer needs, with the sweet malty characteristics that make for a really good-drinking brown ale!. It's a bit lower in alcohol content than some of the others, but it's really good!. It's also a bit rich, and I usually can only drink about a pint before I have to move on to some other beer!. A lot of the other Stone Brewing offerings are 7% alcohol and above!.
Old Rasputin - North Coast Brewing (9% ABV): My favorite Russian Imperial Stout!. Bitter!. Sweet!. Rich!. Notes of bitter chocolate, coffee and burnt sugar!. It's almost worth the $8 a 4-pack price!.
Just look for something a little pretentious and then check the label, it'll always tell you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most light beers are 4!.2%ABV!. Most regular pale lager style beers are 5!.0%!.
Look to pale ales and IPAs!. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is 5!.6%, which may not sound like that much more than a pale lager, but its 12% [56/50] more alcoholic than a 5!.0% beer!.
Might want to check out some of the IPAs local to you!. They'll be stronger, in both alcohol and flavor!. A common one is Stone IPA, which is 6!.9% (or 38% more alcoholic than budweiser)!. Beware if you've never had these before, they're very hoppy!. It's a bitter floral hoppy, too, so you are probably not ready to drink something of this magnitude if you and the guys are used to, say, Bud Light!. (Though, compared to BL, Stone IPA is 64% more alcoholic meaning that each 12oz stone is equal to 20oz of BL)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I honestly go for a Sam Adams!. Most don't have really high alcohol content--it's beer, you know!?
I prefer Guinness, but it's not for everyone!.
For Sam Adams, it's usually really smooth!. More expensive but if you're an inexperienced drinker or just like quality, go with it!. I'd suggest the Black Lager or Scottish Ale!. Their seasonal stuff is great, too, but the Spring one is an unfiltered Belgian Ale, so you might not like that!.
Have fun and stay safe!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well here in ny, sam adams is pretty good for your abv, but theres a brewery called stone that and some others that are 8!.9 abv!.!. they come in 22 ouncers!.!.!. but if you want something cheap, then whatever can that says ice or max ice in it, would be your best betWww@FoodAQ@Com
depends what you mean by quality!. Imperial stouts and IPAs usually have high alcohol content!. I like Victory's Imperial Stout!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Wheat beers are enjoyed by most and have a slightly higher abv than light lagers!. Hoegaarden, blue moon, paulaner, are probably your best bets for availability!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
