Ok what are the consequences of attempting to buy alcohol underage?!

Question: Ok what are the consequences of attempting to buy alcohol underage?
I live in Ireland and on the sign in my local shop it says it is an offence to attempt to buy alcohol. What could happen if I am caught without an id? I don't have a fake one and I'm not planning on getting one either.

Unless you are at least 18 years old it is illegal to buy, attempt to buy or consume alcohol in Ireland. It is also illegal to obtain alcohol for anybody below the minimum age. So if you are under 18 or if you are pestered by anybody who is (or seems to be) ... don't even think about it!

Most shops are pretty strict with ID (and this particular shop clearly is if they have bothered to put a sign up in the window)...whats likely to happen is you'll just get rejected after attempting to buy alcohol without ID, and you'll feel a bit humiliated. Best to just get an 18yr old mate/parent to get your drink for you x
