Confused and embarrassed after drunk hookup?!

Last night I was drinking with a pretty big group of people, and me and this guy I didn't really know hit it off really well. He started saying all this stuff like that he had the biggest crush on me, but had always been too intimidated to talk to me and kept telling me how beautiful I was. Before I knew it we were on a bed making out (he initiated it). This went on for awhile and even though he asked once, he didn't pressure me for sex. We eventually fell asleep together cuddling. The next morning I woke up he was gone. We had exchanged numbers the night before so later in the day I texted him, and he told me he didn't remember anything that happened and he drank way too much. I asked him out much he had to drink and he ignored me and I never heard from him again. I just don't understand what happened, he really didn't seem that drunk to me at all. Did I turn him off so much that he's lying about not remembering anything?
