It SHOULD be no more than 18 but that is going out the window soon for us all. One guy here said that the driving age needs to be 21 or older and that is the best cure for any nations problems. If for safety sake then the youth should not be allowed to operate a motor vehicle. If for strictly health sake then we also need to make candy, soda/soft drinks, and all junk & fast foods banned for people under the age of 21 as well. This arbitrary signing of age is... stupid, yes it is stupid. People are legal adults at 18 so the drinking age should also be 18.

A person is generally considered at adult at 18, and can marry, drive a car, vote or serve in the armed forces or on a jury. Therefore it makes sense that alcohol should also be permitted at this age. By the way I am aged 50+ and don't drink. Rather than raise the drinking age, better enforcement of the laws against being drunk and disorderly in public should reduce the binge drinking problem. If anyone 18 or 80 knows that drunken behaviour in public would result in a night in the police cells and a fine, fewer people would binge. Also the law forbidding sales to anyone (any age) who has already all the worse for drink also needs enforcing.

No. The legal drinking age here in the states is 21 but I strongly feel it should be lowered. You are an adult at 18. You can vote, you can be drafted into the military if you are male...but you can't buy yourself a drink? Underage drinking is rampant here. Countless people die every year from alcohol poisoning and accidents in which drinking is a direct factor. Teens will binge out when they can find alcohol because it isn't normally accessible to them. I honestly can't think of a single reason that 21 is a good drinking age.

I can't really lecture anyone about this as I tried my first alcoholic drink when I was 14. Illegally and secretly of course. Because I wanted to try what my parents used to drink and become kinder :-) However, since then I have never actually abused alcohol. I got wasted only like 5 times and I'm 25 now, I drink only when I go out and only what tastes good or, say, wine to compliment the meal.
I think though that I want my child to have sober childhood and be responsible especially when drinking. At 18 kids are still pretty wild, @ 21 they think about their action a lil bit more.

well woman grow until they are 26, and if you binge before then, then u will have organ failures, and if u want kids, then there is 50% chance they will have messed up organs. so if u wanna liv with the fact that ur children r messed up because u got drunk every night thats ur fault. in a lot of european countries on the other hand the drinking age is 16, so think about it.
you have to choices, be happy healthy, and uncool
or be the coolest kid and die at 40
good luck

I had a question like this for english coursework once. There are loads of reasons why and why not. I remember saying things like ''If it is raised to 21, people will ignore it anyway but might go really crazy on alcohol when they finally reach 21'' My opinion was to just keep it at 18.

No it shouldn't because religion is legal from birth so why is alcohol? they both destroy un-needed braincells.

In the UK yes, too many people under 21 abuse it and think it's a joke to do so.

No.
