bacardi rum vs smirnoff vodka?!
just for reference im not a huge fan of the rubbing alcohol taste of smirnoff, i prefer sky as far as vodka goes but budget is certainly an issue and ive never had non flavored rum or rum at all when it wasnt mixed with something else (i.e. amaretto or vodka).

soda with rum, and juice with vodka. so that should be your deciding factor, which would you rather have, soda or juice? i know GOOD vodka (not smirnoff) is really good with a little bit of pineapple juice.
As far as being lightweight is concerned, it makes no difference if you drink rum or vodka or any other spirit that takes your fancy. They all have the same standard alcohol content.
My two favorite alcoholic mixers are Bacardi with coke and vodka with red bull. I like rum and coke because it's not too sweet when mixed and tastes alcoholic so I go steady, and I like vodka with red bull because it is sweet and not fizzy and way too easy to drink, and you don't get too much of a string alcoholic taste. I usually alternate the two. Try mixing random things and see what takes your fancy. I like to try something different every now and again, vodka and cranberry or orange juice is a classic and rum with lime or lemonade in an almost mojito type drink also goes down well!
Well, being a lightweight doesn't make a difference in this case. Rum and vodka are both typically 40% abv.
As for flavour, if you've never had rum then you should try someone else's before buying your own just to see if you like the taste. Rum has actual flavour, esp. dark rum, so it would obviously be smart to try some for free before paying for it.
Vodka is probably the best choice for you. Smirnoff really is crap...there are plenty of cheap vodka brands that are less offensive to the senses. Absolut comes to mind, as does Polar Ice. I like both of those better than Smirnoff (unless it's a Smirnoff flavoured vodka.)

im a lightweight drunk too. 2 cans of smirnoff double black and i'm so tipsy ahhah
mixit the vodka with lemonade or creaming soda or orange juice (or straight is actually not too bad) and its only like 30 dollars for like 750 ml.
Rum and coke is probably your best bet!
