1999 Casillero del Diablo, too old to drink?!

Question: 1999 Casillero del Diablo, too old to drink?
Traveling through the back of my cupboards I came across a Casillero del Diablo Chardonnay, vintage 1999. I was reading through a few posts, and found that most answers are to toss it. However this bottle seems well chilled through the years and the cork seems to be sealed with no disintegration. Curious as to whether or not I should jump on the boat and test it out. Anyone with any advice?

12 year old inexpensive($12) Chard kept in a cupboard, definitely bad.
I would not use even for cooking. Not losing much by tossing.

If it's been in a vertical position for 12 years and exposed to kitchen heat, I doubt like the others that it's drinkable, but also agree it's worth a try. You will know the moment you open it if it has soured, or if it's something you can enjoy tonight.

Even if it has soured, don't pitch it. Acetic acid in the fermented wine, "vinegar", at the very least is a useful cleaner. Used as vinegar, it can brighten up a dish, and will keep pests and cats at bay.
A link below lists some of the uses of soured wine.

The normal white wine has a shelf life of 5 year,if it is not a sweet wine. You can always chill it and pour it, then see if the color had changed to a darker yellow or has a cork nose or mouth. If it is corked or off, throw it away, do not use for cooking, that taste will not go away from the food or burn off. Good Luck

What do you have to lose?

Open it, and try it.

As you already suspect... Chards don't age like reds, so a 12 year old vintage might not be good. I would be more concerned about the manner in which you stored this wine. If it was upright in a cabinet that's not temperature controlled, there's a chance that some air got to the bottle. Air could ruin the wine.

Go for it... and hopefully you'll be able to enjoy.

I study and enjoy wine.

The only way to know for sure is to try some. It cannot hurt you. If it has oxidized, use it as vinegar in cooking. It if tastes good, drink it.

I am a wino.

Try it because the worst thing that can happen is that it turned into vinegar. Which in that case use on salad!
