why must she ID me every single time i buy alcohol?!

Question: Why must she ID me every single time i buy alcohol?
i am 22 with two children, the woman in the shop across the road knows how old i am, but i do look much younger if im honest.
so when i was 18 i started buying alcohol.... as you do.
she asked me for ID, so i showed her my passport.
the next time i went she asked me for ID again... i showed her my passport.
every single tike i go over to buy alcohol she asks me for ID, why????? im not going to get any younger from the last time she asked me!!!
is it like the law or something that i must show proof of my age every single time i buy alcohol? even though she knows how old i am

Next time you go in note the signage that says something to the effect of "We Card/ID anyone looking under the age of 30." With time some businesses will only ID on occasion a refresh type of action.

Hiya,
To the person who said you have to be 21 to buy alcohol in the UK you are wrong!
The lady probably doesn't recognise you, or maybe she does but ID's you to be sure. There is a hefty fine to pay if you are caught out and local shops are always good targets for the police to send in underage people and try and catch them out.
I would just grin and bear it or go to another shop. Take it as a compliment hun...i know most place operate a policy of 'if they look under 25, ask for ID'.
Hope this helps :)

Well, it is true that there are mystery shoppers cause I have been one in the past, however a mystery shopper will only go once to buy alcohol or smokes... since you've been there at least 3 times and showed her your passport there is no reason that she asks you for ID. Maybe she is holding something against ya, go to another place to buy alcohol!

well she's required to do it by law. And she's probably trying to avoid getting into trouble on the off-chance that they have a security camera and a boss that reviews the tapes....if HE/SHE thinks you look underage/under like 40 and they don't have on video carding...she could get into trouble.

she may get allot of costumers and may forget your face, and you must obviously look younger than 22, you have to be 21 to buy alcohol now in the UK so that may be another problem with you being only 22

Yep you've got it, it's the law. She can get in some real trouble if she's spotted on the in store cameras or by a manager for not asking someone who looks under 25 for ID, don't be offended for looking all youthful!

Unless she owns the store, it could be a store policy the owner installed to guarantee he'll keep his alcohol license. She may be doing that to keep her job, since she will get fired if the owner finds out she is not carding.

its the law, plus if she didnt ask the people behind could ask why she didnt ask you when its the law and cause a whole fuss, or they could report her to the manager for not asking for id.

She might not believe your ID is valid, also in the UK i seem to remember they have a
policy of ID'ing all - 25, take it as a compliment as I do (am older than you if it matters)

it is the law and some conveniate store chains have cameras over the registers and the general mgs can make sure they're doing that. annoying yes but she has to do it

Although she may know your age and many places will not continue asking for ID, it's is actually required by law that they ask every time. She's following the law...

LOL! Besides being the law...when you get to be my age, you'll actually MISS having them ask! Enjoy it while you can! *GRIN*

You look young. Whether or not she's seen you and your ID before is not the point. My brother has been asked for ID several times over the last decade & he's 41 today!

its the law.

it's the law

Yes, it is the law to ID someone every single time. I had friends that I worked with bartending that didn't follow this and got screwed. Anyone can file to be a secret shopper, which pretty much means you get paid to go out to a free lunch/dinner or get paid to buy alcohol with money they gave you. All you have to do is report your service and whether or not you were ID'd by the liquor store or bartender. If you were not they are fired on the spot.
Unfortunately at a bar I worked with a couple of semi-regulars figured they would do this and they were not carded because the bartenders knew them. Needless to say they were fired.
