Dextromethorphan is a dissociative similar to PCP or Ketamine. At 300mg, it is very unlikely that you will experience any hallucinations, but people around you will defenetly be able to tell that you are on some sort of drug. People describe the effect as being drunk and stoned at the same time. Be sure that the only active ingrediant is DXM and not anything else.

The effects of the drug is classified by 4 "plateaus". 300mg is classified as a second plateau dose and is a good dose for starters. Lost a best friend over that crap, because he wouldn't stop taking it and would turn into a monster on it and I didn't want to be around it. Yes, people around you will notice you're on it, because just basic tasks are impossible on that garbage...i.e. walking, sitting down, concentrating on a conversation. Not to mention your pupils will become huge. You're going to end up ruining your stomach with mass amounts of cough medicine. Congrats.
