What is a good red wine for lowering blood pressure?!

Question: What is a good red wine for lowering blood pressure?
I am living with Diabetes Type 2 and have other health issues. I read that drinking one glass (4 oz) of red wine would help lower my blood pressure and would also be good for my heart health. I have tried Cabernet Sauvingion (sp?) and Merlot. I would prefer to drink Kosher Black Cherry wine which is probably the worst choice for diabetes. With my preference in mind, which kind of wine would you recommend?

Answers:

The problem is that you like Kool Aid, aka that black cherry crap. All of those "wines" are loaded with sugar, which, as you know, is terrible for your diabetes.

I'd try Pinot Noir, especially one from CA, which tend to be fruitier and easy to drink. They're often much lighter in body and tannins (tannins cause the chalky, puckery sensation many red wines cause in your mouth) than Merlot and Cab, for example.

Good question. I'll give you a star.

I'm a sommelier.

I would recommend you talk to your doctor. If you have compounding health issues - especially if you are on medication for them - adding alcohol in any amount may actually be bad for you, not good.

Wine is not a health food nor is it medication to lower blood pressure. There has never been a controlled study to see if wine will do anything beneficial for a person with existing health issues. The only people who have been studies with wine, are healthy people who are not on medication.

try merlot or a very expensive red wine because the more expensive the red wine is, the better quality

Merlot is the number one best wine for lowering blood pressure. My mom and dad drink it every night with their dinner. Hope this helped :)

red wine contains some medicine that helps to control blood pressure
