Are some people more susceptible to hangovers than others?!

Question: Are some people more susceptible to hangovers than others?
Last night I went out with my friends and drank a whole bottle of wine by myself. My other friends were drinking heavily as well and woke up with terrible hangovers. This morning I woke up with just hardly a head ache and I thought wine was supposed to give you the worst hangovers. My friends always joke that it's because im irish. Is there any truth to this?

Yepp they certainly are. :) I'm fine whereas my friend spends pretty much the whole of the next morning with her head in a toilet. Serves her right really, she's so annoying when she's drunk......

Yes, but it depends on many things. Body weight, how much you've eaten before drinking, and how fast you drink, among other things. If you drank your wine slowly by sipping on it, your liver typically processes one drink in an hour. If your friends were knocking back shot after shot, or beer after beer, within the span on an hour, they'd have more alcohol in their system than you because their liver can't process all of that alcohol fast enough. Drinking on an empty stomach also allows the alcohol to reach your bloodstream faster by getting absorbed through the stomach lining more quickly when it's empty. Your weight plays a factor as well, because just like with medications, the more body mass you have, the more of something it takes to give you the same effect.

I can drink a bottle of wine and be fine the next day, but my boyfriend would be in bed all day with a hangover. It is different for everyone.

Yes this is definitely true, some people are more able to get hangovers than others. Sometimes it has to do with genetics, and your parents genes, whereas it can have to do with weight as well. If you way more you need more alcohol to get you down, and that is why the more you weigh the harder it is to get a hangover. Also, a tip if you wanted one, some drinks don't give you a hangover as bad as others. For example, good Vodka will give you less of a hangover than a lot of other drinks.

Usually weight can determine whether you get a hangover or not. Larger people have less hangovers, though I can't remember why, and if you drink a lot of water, or if you keep hydrated with something else but wine, then you won't get that bad of a hangover. Also, you might just have a good liver.

Since alcohol is a drug; as with any drug, the effects will definitely vary from person to person. Some people are more susceptible to hangovers than others. Also some other things to take into account are height and body weight. Those play a role as well.
