I don't know if this is at Target, but one of my personal favorites is Becks. It's imported from Germany and tastes great. Low in carbs too.
Try anything from Dogfish Head, Victory Brewing, Westmalle, Port Brewing, Lost Abbey, St Bernardus, Stone, Alesmith, Ayinger, Founders.
That gives a wide range of brewers from around the country and world that are fairly common depending on where you live. Stay away from any of that macrobrewed crap (Bud/Miller/Coors/Corona/Blue Moon). You are starting out the way I did, now I have tried 2200 different beers.
I'm a beer snob and alcoholic
I'd steer clear lf the non tasting lagers. Try real ale. I used to drink lagers like Fosters, then went on to drink real ale (all i drink now!) look up real ale on the net, there are literall thousands of beers out there. It all depends on the idividual. My personal fav is Young's bitter. Try your local wetherspoons for ale, but wach them- bad pint will have you sitting on the bog all night! best bet is a local pub. Have a wander around and see :)
There are also plenty of small brewers that brew lagers. your best bet is to look this up on the search engines. I can't recommend anything in particular as i don't know where you live! Good luck on the beer hunting :)
Some good ones to try(No idea if can be bought at a Target since my state outlawed that sort of thing)

If you have beer questions and want to learn more about 'good' beer, join here and you can post threads there, all the people know and love beer so you'd get better answers...b/c it's hard to tell you some great beers if we don't know where your from...and I only know beers available in the mid-west since that's where I am.
if you're shopping at target and you want good beer I'd say go for sierra nevada pale ale. it's not the most adventurous beer out there but it's withstood the test of time. it's got the nice balance of flavor and availability.
Sam Adams seasonals are pretty good.
Most grocery stores around me carry Sierra Nevada as well. They make quite good beer.
Also look for any beer made local to you.
Blue Moon with orange slices or Dos Equis
