What gives Retsina it's odd taste and texture?!

Question: What gives Retsina it's odd taste and texture?
I've had it many times at the Greek restaurant and I can't tell what it is.. like it has oil in it or something

So odd.. but I like it :)

Answers:

Retsina is unique for sure. You are tasting pine resin, hence the name Retsina. The wine is fermented with Aleppo Pine resin, a process that has origins in ancient Greek wine making.

Greek wines were once sealed with pine resin to keep it from going bad, and the process imparted a pine taste. The process was improved over the years so as to not need the resin, but the flavor was beloved by so many that it still produced as Retsina today.

I particularly like Retsina on a hot day.
