What is the point of Light Beer?!
Personally, I drink to get DRUNK. Most light beers are in the range of 3.5% to 4.5% ABV (Alcohol by Volume), while most regular (or "Heavy") beers range from 5% to 8% ABV. So if you're like me who "drink to get drunk", then you would have to drink more light beers than heavy beers, all the while equaling the same amount of calories while sacrificing taste... Is it just me? Excuse the grammar & spelling, i'm drunk :P

there isn't much of a point. I don't understand it either. I work at a beer distributor and our top 3 sellers are coors lt, miller lt and keystone lt. Light beers don't taste that great at all, more like stale piss without much of a aftertaste(thank god). As fore what another said about being bloating off of regular beer, this is true for some lagers but a lot of ales won't be make you feel as bloated and from personal experience a couple of craft beers will give you a hell of a lot nicer buzz than like 8 or more light beers.
The point is this: many smallish women out there will be drunk after 2 or so normal strength beers. If you were drunk after that and then pissed after 3 or 4 and you didn't want to seem drunk to your alcohol-controlled friends, then you'd probably go for the light beer too, (if you could handle the taste.)
The reason why light beer is as common as it is in the US is that after the days of prohibition they didn't just re-legalize all alcohol at once, they initially just legalized beer with alcohol content up to 3.2%. I guess they thought it would be too hardcore to go back to the way it was pre-prohibition all at once. It wasn't until many years later that stronger beers were made legal again too. In the mean time, many Americans gained the taste for this lighter beer and it still persists today.
Personally I wouldn't go near it when we've got the real stuff available. Yumm. :)
Yeah, you're a dopey American. Many people, all over the world, drink beer as a delicious refreshment. When I finish a triathlon, or even just a dumb little 5K, a beer is great. Lite Beer gives me the water I need without the calories I don't want or the alcohol I don't need.
True fact, the Pilgrims stopped in Plymouth 'cause they were out of beer. Water went septic on long ocean voyages, but beer stayed good. Everyone drank beer instead of water.

Hahahah...I love kids' questions about alcohol. When you grow up you will understand. I don't like light beer, either, though. I laugh at how you call "heavy" beers 5-8%. A true heavy beer is 8-12%- drink some craft beer. It's a little more expensive, but a lot better and will get you drunk a lot quicker
You can throw back more light beers without getting all bloated like u do with heavy beers.
Idk.. all I know is that it takes like ****
you sound like you might have a problem, but i'm clearly not one to judge. from my experience a good reason to drink light beer is to avoid blacking out. i weigh close to the same as you and have been drinking for twice as long,... and i drink to get drunk as well, but a lot of times i keep going past drunk (being belligerent or blacking out), and i've noticed is quite a bit more difficult to black out on light beer than dark beer.. plus you can play more beer pong games (decently) if you drink light beer than normal beer or heavier beer
and its not like any of them taste all that good anyway. if your looking for a cheap way to get drunk 4 lokos or tilts, a couple of those will F you up for cheap.
