Can liver cancer be caused by drinking a lot of alcohol?!

Question: Can liver cancer be caused by drinking a lot of alcohol?
Someone told me I am going to get liver cancer now because I drank an entire bottle of tequila rose which was 1 liter and he told me to enjoy liver cancer. He told me that I should be ashamed of myself for putting my liver through such unnesseceary strain when I drink so much he says one day my liver will have enough and will develop cancer and then I will get bad news from the doctor that I have liver cancer and that there is no cure for it and that I only have 6 months to live :( how right is he?

Answers:

It is possible to get liver cancer from drinking. However the likelihood of getting cancer from 1 night of drinking 1 liter is very slim. Almost non existent. Just don't repeat that day on a daily basis

@April_Dawn. Actually, that is bad advice. Drinking at special occasions etc is asking for excess. Getting drunk is very dangerous and even just once can cause damage, not only to your liver, but your whole body. Recent research has shown that drinking one unit of alcohol a day can actually be very beneficial, decreasing the chances of suffering from heart disease by up to 20%. It also can greatly decrease the likelihood of the person 'binge drinking'. There are mature ways to handle alcohol, and that does not necessarily mean boycotting it or even keeping it for special occasions.
By the way, chances of getting liver cancer from a litre of tequila rose, almost nil, but still possible.

I'm not sure about cancer, but drinking a lot does put a strain on your liver as it acts as a sponge, keeping all of the toxins out of your blood. The more you drink, the harder your liver has to work to filter the alcohol. Excess drinking can lead to liver failure and alcohol poisoning so it's best to only drink moderately. Your liver is important for your bodily functions and keeping homeostasis so you should try and treat it properly. But as for the guy, he's not that right.

Yes, it can be, but more likely is over time, your liver will fail and cause all sorts of problems, including death.

If you're going to drink, do so on special occasions only if you value your health.

yes drinking alcohol causes liver cancer, but drinking 1 time won't cause liver cancer. your friend is trying to scare you into not drinking, and is full of themselves

***once a week will take a tole on you though...
