four reasons why some teens choose to begin drinking.?!

Question: Four reasons why some teens choose to begin drinking.?
what role might advertising play in their decisions?

thank you

Answers:

1. Social reasons (their friends do so, parties, feel "cool" if they do so, part of the culture/family they grew up in)
2. Find it relaxing or as an escape from their problems (look to alcohol as an escape from they real world)
3. Curiosity (wonder what it tastes like)
4. Peer pressure (I guess you can group this one with my first point but this one is significant in its own right)

Advertising I feel simply reinforces these reasons so when a teenager is faced with the choice they will draw upon their past experiences "advertisements" and will be more likely to say yes. Even if the teenager does not consciously register the advertisement his brain subliminally does. Your brain connects objects and experiences with certain feelings (happiness with a slice of cake for example) so these commercials do a great job of connecting alcohol with everything a man could want (fun, women, adventure).
I bet everyone who has watched television especially sports networks can name one beer commercial which they enjoyed watching.

I am 18

1) they think it's mature
2) they like the taste (cider and ginger beer are nice)
3) peer pressure
4) advertising can make it seem as though the other sex find it attractive if you drink
but I, personally, do not have a problem with teens drinking, my friends and I used to drink at parties and nobody ever got violent or did anything regrettable.

Discovery
Cultural Traditions
Self-Control (Able to have a small serving)
Its something being done in a social context

Advertisements have some influence on all people and teens a bit more. Therefore it is up to their parents to teach what they expect of the child regarding the use of alcohol.

- peer pressure
- to fit in
- insecurity
- lack of role model, guidance

peer pressure

bored

curiosity

parents drink

... I don't think advertising plays a significant role, at least it didn't for me

1- peer pressure
2- there parents do it
3- they get bored
4- they want to be cool.

cuz being drunk is really fun
