Is it a good idea to get a bartender license or TIPS license? or I do not need any for the most part.?!

I've been bartending for over 20 years. I began as a bar-back in a night club. several months later I got promoted to bartender. Since then I worked in night clubs and restaurants. But without question working in a restaurant is best if you can find the right place. I work for a high end golf resort.
Getting in is tough, without having experience. If you can find a small place that allows some bartending while you wait tables, or a small place that can use a part-time bartender, that is the best place to start.
I've always asked; "What is in a vodka & tonic?" The answer is obvious, but can you socialize with people, and be responsible, be clean, have good work ethics, etc., then you may make it as a bartender.
In the end, you may have to "lie" to get in the door. The proof will be with your work, so go watch some bartenders somewhere and see how it's done.
Good luck
PS, I have a "TIPS" card, it is required where I work.

If that is the career that you want to look into, i would take a class or two. Also the classes would make you more appealing as a barkeep or what have you, even more so if that is what you want as a full time job. i only work at it part timeish. I do not believe there is a downside to taking the classes.
Myself, i tend the bar on occasion.
