how much wine to serve with meal at wedding?!

Question: How much wine to serve with meal at wedding?
we have 42 guests that will be drinking alcohol but have decided to just serve wine on the tables with our sit down buffet wedding breakfast.
I would say only 35 will really be drinking the wine as a lot of the male guests will probably just go to the bar and get a pint instead.
How many bottles would you buy to put on tables.we were thinking of getting a case of 6 red and 6 white but i'm not sure how far this would go.

We are also serving 1 glass of rose cava per guest on arrival at the reception

Answers:

Well usually it's one bottle of wine=5glasses.

So just get 9 bottles of red and 9 bottles of white. That would allow for one glass of white and one glass of red per guest, and there would be a little extra. So you will almost definately need at least 16-18 bottles all together.

But If I were you I would only get like 5-6 bottles of red and the rest white b/c most ppl prefer white wine (this is assuming all 42 of your guests are not 'wine' ppl)....I just think most ppl, if they don't drink wine on a regular basis don't like red all that much but if your wedding guests are 'wine ppl' and like it then you could go more even.

EDIT: I didn't read your question that well, only 35 guests drinking wine?

10 bottles of white
5bottles of red

Your best bet is to try and contact a local caterer or restaurant that is willing to help you do the math on what you should get. Just ask them what they serve and go by that.

As a rule of thumb 1 bottle of red and 1 of white will not be enough for a table of 8. 2 bottles might do. It depends on what is being served. Fish? 3 bottles white, 1 red. Beef or other red meat? 4 bottles red, 1 white. Fowl? 2 and 2.

Generally you allocate a half bottle of white per person and a quarter bottle of red, so I don't think 6 bottles of white is enough by a long way. How many people on each table?
