Binge drink help (not to be confused with 'alcoholic help')?!

Question: Binge drink help (not to be confused with 'alcoholic help')?
Everytime I go out with my friends, I always drink really fast and the amount I consume is sickening, literally! My friends often comment on how fast my drinks go down but I don't seem to be able to slow down. The amount of embarrassing nights I've had where you wake up and think 'Oh God I made a right tit of myself... cringe!' My dad's an alcoholic, and I'm a huge fidgeter, as if I'm drinking just for something to do, so maybe these have something to do with it as well.

I've tried pacing myself before, but then I get to certain point and think 'ah screw it'!! I'm NOT an alcoholic, and I probably go out once a fortnight. It's just that I drink too fast when I AM out!

Any ideas on how I can continue to go out but drink less, drink slower, and retain any shred of dignity I may have left?

Answers:

A bit hard to do but you probably could drink shandy or if you are a wine drinker drink a spritzer instead of neat wine or beer. That way, quantity wise at least, you will be drinking more fluid than your mates, but hopefully the alcohol content will match their's and you can all become 'drunken tit's' together and share the cringing. But beware if your Dad is an alcoholic as I fear you are at more risk than other of going down the same route.

no source - personal knowledge and I'm a bit the same too.......

It ain't about the booze, young fella, it's about trying to butch up through alcohol, unhealthy, and asinine behavior. You're really going to have to hold yourself to a higher standard if you hope to change this. Hey. Dad's already got the disease. Learn something from it. Know your limitations.

how frequently you go out drinking is irrelevant as to being an alcoholic.Your behavior while drinking is relevant. You have described perfectly totally alcoholic behavior. Trying to control your drinking is a major sign. That and the fact your dad is alcoholic. You got it too.
