Short answer, which you won't like to hear, is that you can't. People with addictions have to want to help themselves first. There is nothing you can say or do which will make much difference if any. One of the best things anyone involved with an alcoholic can do, supposing they're not married to them with 4 children and sometimes even then, is tell the alcoholic that they can't live like this any more and that it's over until or unless the alcoholic quits drinking and then you'll see. I'd tell him to call you after he's been sober for at least a year and go out and find someone who doesn't need fixing. You might try Al-Anon, the organization for people involved with alcoholics. It can help you stay sane if you don't decide to get out. At your age, I'd get out. One of the reasons, perhaps, that this guy is with someone so much younger(at your ages, 8 years is huge) is that alcoholics who are still drinking don't mature emotionally. At 26, he may be still about 16 in terms of how he deals with life. Women his own age are too grown up for him.

You can't force help on somebody, especially when it comes to addiction. An intervention might help, but you would need the support of all his friends and family. Also, be prepared for the resentment he'll have for you if you try.
Sorry, there is no easy answer for this one.

You can't help him if he doesn't want to be helped. The most you can do is tell him you think he has a problem and he should get help.
