Try the micro-brews in your area. If you don't know of any Bell's Oberon in the summer is sold in a lot of places and Bell's Two Hearted Ale is great all year. Both are filled with flavors, but they don't have a strong after taste which I appreciated when I first started drinking beer. Another idea is going to a beer tasting or getting a sampler at a restaurant that has its own beer, that way you get to find out what kind of beer you like and go from there. Sip slowly and enjoy!!!
If you want to enjoy a cold beer in a responsible casual setting ,then order a Heineken and savour it slowly. It is a class act beer with decent taste. Just remember that any alcohol ,when drank in access will get you buzzed..I give you two thumbs up for just wanting a good tasting beer and not wanting to get buzzed. Great attitude dude..Also, there is nothing wrong with having a non alcoholic drink when socializing . If the company you keep are real friends, then they should have no problem with your personal choices in life.
Dark beers are my personal favorites, but as a first time drinker, you may want to try something a little less hoppy.
Anything by Sam Adams is good, I would start with Boston Lager
New Belgium (Fat Tire)
Local brews (microbrews) may be the best beer you'll be able to find
Blue Moon (and other Belgian Whites like Shock Top and Upland Wheat Ale) is very fruitful you might get made fun of a little for drinking them, but they are delicious
Bud Light is personally the best tasting cheap beer
Heineken is always a good choice
Dos Equis is very drinkable also
If you want to start drinking dark beers, try Guinness
Samuel Adams Boston Lager is my go-to beer. Always drink a non-alcoholic beverage, like water, in between beers. Limit yourself to one beer per hour, and 3 or 4 in a single night. Do not drink and drive.
Sure, you can feel "buzzed" after just one beer, but it will affect each person differently. I prefer Sam Adams Lager, it's darker and seems to have more flavor to me.
Beer is downright nasty to me but if you are going to drink, make sure it is icy cold. Warm or barely chilled beer is the most nasty thing you can imagine.
I like Rock Art Brewery beer from Vermont, very unique
Then take beer everyday. you will feel bad tasting at first but slowly you like it.
for taste, sam adams, preferably october fest.. if you want to get wasted old english
Rolling Rock
