Hi Shaggy,
The darker the liquor the more congeners content and liquors that contain sugar by a large % is possibly going to give you a hangover, more than lighter liquor.
One of the predictive factors is the amount of congeners in alcohol.
*Congeners—chemical toxins produced during fermentation and aging, or added during production via certain flavorings—have a direct effect on the nervous system. When you drink alcohol, these toxins course through your bloodstream as your liver metabolizes the alcohol.
(wiki discription)
It's very good to get good rest and plenty of liquids prior to drinking alcohol. Brands are relative to these facts.

I would avoid anything with sugary sweet syrups mixed in, or drinks with different types of booze in it like long Islands or Hurricanes, most of the fruity drinks. Also darker liquor seems to give me a horrible hangover. If you stick to the same drink all night that helps( w/ out mixing ) Try Vodka with tonic water and a lime or ginger ale, or I like Gin and 7up. Or just beer

well sugary drinks give you a bad one, and dark colored ones but

BEER BEFORE LIQUOR NEVER BEEN SICKER, LIQOUR BEFORE BEER YOUR IN THE CLEAR

just follow that rule if you plan on drinking both in one night

scotch and still water
