How long is red wine good after opening?!

Question: How long is red wine good after opening?
We bought a gallon jug of red wine about 2 weeks ago. Its been in a cold room (nearly refrigerator temp) and it's had a cap on it. Is it still good to drink? How long do you guess it will stay good?

&I mean "good" as in...it tastes okay and the alcohol will still be effective. I know it probably won't have the same fresh taste as when we first opened it ;) But it would be such a waste to throw it out...there is almost a third of the jug left. Basically...I want to know if I can choke it down and still catch a buzz.

Answers:

When it tastes bad, stop drinking it.

If you want to freeze some of it to use for cooking later, that's a good way to keep from wasting it. But that won't get your buzz on ;)

Doubtful after 2 weeks. Oxygen does bad things to wine at all price points, but especially jug wine.

You can get a cheap pump to remove oxygen which typically gets you a couple of extra days, but after 2 weeks you're probably closer to vinegar than wine.

Don't throw it out - Think of all the poor children in India who go to bed sober!

It will be good for several more weeks.

You'll know when it goes bad because it will hae a vinegar aroma and/or taste,

Think of it as some grapes in your fridge. I'd say after a week it's start getting nasty. It might taste ok, but I drank some that was kinda old and I threw up a lot and got sick.

Try it, if it tastes super vinegary, I'd toss it....otherwise, drink up!

I dunno. A gallon of wine never lasts more then an hour when I'm around.
