Answers:

Crown Reserve

You could try going higher up the Daniels line. But we also want to be sure what it is you're tasting and what words you're attaching to it.

The further I got into sipping whiskeys, the more Jack #7 got annoying. There was a harshness to it that I really could do without. Gentleman Jack cut some of that harshness out, but I gave up on Jack without trying Single Barrel. I may regret that hastiness. The funny thing about Jack: I found that drinking it with ice actually hurt the taste. I make sure my first tastes of a new whiskey are lukewarm...

...and to quote from The Quiet Man: "When I drink whiskey, I drink whiskey. When I drink water, I drink water."

Or the burn could be the alcohol. But it hits me more like a glow than a burn.

To answer your question: I would suggest you groan and shell out some honest money for a Good whiskey. A nice premium Kentucky bourbon or maybe Crown Royal. Jameson makes a good 12-year old select Irish that's very approachable without the peatiness of some scotches. (The single barrels, by the way, tend to be a little higher in alcohol percentage. Crown, at 80 proof, is just a bit too mild for me).

After you find out what the good stuff is like, back off in price and find out how much you're willing to sacrifice in smoothness to save a few bucks.

Happy tasting.

Whiskey is supposed to burn. That's why it's good. Crown Royal is good. Kinda pricey.

You are gonna want something aged. The older the mellower.

Seagrams 7 or V.O.
