How do you know when your electric cigarette's filter runs out/ how many normal ciggarette's in a filter?!

i always thought it was quite simply when it doesn't produce vapor anymore.i saw the other guys answer, but if its flashing that could mean the battery is the problem.

I think each filter is supposed to be about 10 cigarettes worth, but im not convinced by it to be honest. it may be that amount of nicoteine but it doesnt seem to me to last ten cigs worth of smoking time. Saying this, I'm a newbie to the whole electronic cig thing so maybe i'm just working out teething problems!
