Oxygen causes staling reactions in beer. If the brewer followed good sanitation and packaging procedures then the beer should last quite a while. Heat will also decrease the shelf life of the beer.
Beer from a professional brewery which has been refrigerated will last years; a poorly constructed homebrew sitting on a warm shelf might be DOA.
taste wise? a few months. safe wise? a few years.
