Depends.
If they are quicklights, yes. it will work that's how they are designed. They have an added chemical starter to make it easy.

If they are natural coals, no. Even with a butane lighter it will take forever. Use a coil burner.

Bruv, u wanna leave it for a long time if u are gonna, so dont be holding the block when u do it, but it could work well :) Make sure it is nice and gray before u put on the tin foil though so u get the best possible flavour out of it :)
Yes, it will take a while but it works. just remember to try and get all of the coal as grey as possible before putting it on your foil.
