Question: What is the big idea behind tea cozies?? What purpose do they serve ?
Personally, I think they are ugly and tacky, but that is just me. I am the only hot- tea dinker in my home, and I make mine by the cup, boiling water in a pot, on the stove-top. Why would somone cover up a pretty tea pot, anyway ?
Can someone give me a bit of insight to this unsightly get-up ?

Answers:

Tea cozies are used to keep a teapot warm while the tea brews. "Properly" tea is made by pouring hot, not boiling water, over a mixture of leaves and fruit for a period of time. The longer it steeps the stronger the tea is (generally). So a cozy keeps the pot warm so it can brew at a constant temperature.

Tea cozies are made to put on a pot of fresh hot tea to keep it warmer longer.. So it can sit there longer without getting cold.

works

they are kitsch

more to the point what is the point in a toilet roll cover?

They keep the pot warm and keep dust off it.

Tea cozies help the pot keep warm.
