I tend to go with a higher value since ethanol is 7kcal/gram and an ounce is ~30g.

So, one ounce =
30 X 0.4 (80 proof/40% vodka) = 12 grams ethanol in an ounce.
12 X 7 = 84kcal in one ounce of 40proof vodka. But there are other considerations. I would simply take a midpoint between the 84 and 64 if the calorie issue, and I am bewildered why it is to a drinker, is important to you.
