I think my friend is drinking far to much and i think its making him ill, how much is too much?!

Question: I think my friend is drinking far to much and i think its making him ill, how much is too much?
Ok i have a very close friend who i think is drinking far to much. I love him to bits and i do mention his drinking to him quite often but he just shrugs it off. But lately he's been getting pain in his right side so much so sometimes he can hardly move. He's been to the doctor and had umpteen tests and scans etc, but they have all come back clear! He doesn't know what his pain is and neither do the doctors, could the pain be caused by him drinking too much? Here goes, he has at least i think 15 units of alcohol EVERY DAY, without a day off through the week. He does admit sometimes that he's drinking a bit to much but completely denies that his pain is because of his drinking. He'll talk to me and tells me he thinks he's dying or has cancer or something, but if i mention his alcohol, he gets all moody and tells me to stop being stupid! Please can anyone help me, so i can help him, even if i have to print out your answers and show it to him!! Could his drinking be causing the pain that the docs cant cure? Or find?

It is not his drinking but his honesty. Either he is lying to you and not going to the Doctor or he is lying to the doctor and not telling him how much he is drinking.
My best guess he is not going to the doctor.
Alcoholics are people who cannot stop pnce they take a drink and so drink way too much almost every time they drink.
Once in a while the alcoholic will control his drinking but not very often.
We are the type of people who are rarely honest with our physician, our parents, spouse or best friends.we only say what we need to say to keep you off our back.
Go to an Alanon Meeting in your neighborhood and learn all you need to know to cope with your friend's condition. It is in the telephone directory under Alcoholics Anonymous.

Sober 8 years, and damn grateful.

If tests are clear then maybe the pain is psychosomatic.
He obviously has a bit of drink problem. The pain may be how a problem is manifesting itself.
( the reason people drink is to forget and escape from their stresses and strains and problems in life)

My Brother has a problem.

He'll figure that out himself when he's hugging the toilet, yelling that he will "never drink again".

Hey, haven't you heard the saying "Denial is the first step"...it's true.

15 units a day? If he doesn't cut back he will soon feel the effects.

it's the drink

has classic signs of being an alcoholic, been there and done that
