hauteterre faugeres wine?!

Question: Hauteterre faugeres wine?
I have a 1979 bottle of HauteTerre Faugeres wine. I've been told it is an excellent red wine, but my french is terrible and I am unsure if it is a nice wine or not. Should I try it with steak? Should I never open it because it is worth more than my car? Can anyone help? I've tried searching on the internet with a variety of different searches and found nothing specific to this name and that year.

Hm, does it say Chateau Faugères by any chance - in that case it could be a Bordeaux Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. But I suspect it is from the Faugeres appellation in the Langueduc.

The Bordeaux doesn't actually look like it has been produced that long http://www.chateau-faugeres.com/index_uk…

Here's a big pdf guide to the region in the Langueduc http://www.bramley.demon.co.uk/faugeres-…

If it's a Langueduc wine, I can't see it being worth much, no matter what. But if it has been properly stored, it may be drinkable. I'd suggest opening it up - the first whiff will tell you if it's totally gone. If not, go for a sip and see what happens. If it's bad enough to harm you - you'd have smelled it.

You might want to send an email to Robert Parker and ask him. He's one of America's foremost wine authorities.

If he helps you out then your payment for my tip is a taste of that wine!
