I once heard that the dark liquors (rum and whiskey) cause worse hangovers than the clear liquors (vodka and gin). I know personally that I can drink a lot more vodka than rum or whiskey and not get sick or have nearly as bad a hangover. But you may have just had too much too quickly.
I'm not familiar with Cherry Bacardi, but if it was sweet, then that's the reason.
Sweetness with liquor causes more dehydration, and thus more irritation to the lining of the stomach (yes more than drinking hard liquor on itself)!
maybe it was too much for you.
