If you're out at a bar- especially a brewery/bar- and the situation calls for you to drink a beer, anything called "pale ale" is probably a safe bet. Pale ales are hard to screw up, and they're pretty plain, as beers go. (NB: "India Pale Ale" is a completely different thing; you might like it, but it's more of a specialty). Other good choices are Hefeweizens and Witbiers/White Ales; these are made with wheat instead of or in addition to barley, and have a sweeter, sometimes fruity flavor.
If you're buying beer by the six-pack for home, good guesses are Blue Moon, Anchor Steam Beer, or any Pale Ale.
These are all $4-5 at a bar and $8-10 a six-pack; if that's more than you want to spend on your beer, go to happy hour and try all the domestic beers until you find one you like. It'll cost you $20 and a hangover, but you only have to do it once. Yuengling is a good place to start.
Buy a variety pack and see what styles you like and then try other brewers' versions.
KEYSTONE LIGHT is good, Fat Tire is also a good beer as well.
