When you smoke, do you swallow the smoke?!

Question: When you smoke, do you swallow the smoke?
I know this is a weird question, but I've never REALLY smoked in my life and my fiance has been a mild smoker for quite some time. He told me to try it so I did and he laughed at me. I breathed it in but then breathed it back out. I didn't swallow it or anything. Are you supposed to swallow it? I know, I feel dumb for asking this, but I'm just curious.

Answers:

No, you can only swallow food and drinks. You inhale and exhale smoke when you breathe it in and out using your lungs. Food and drinks are swallowed and go through your esophagus. Smoke goes through your trachea and in and out of your lungs. You can't really swallow smoke, you're supposed to breathe it in and exhale. You're not dumb for asking this, I didn't know either until I smoked for the first time. It's just something that you have to think about. If it's in the air and it's not a solid or liquid, then technically you can't swallow it. You can only breathe it in or out. Hope this helps.

No you just breathe it into your lungs, and it burns. Knowing how addictive nicotine is, you might be better off not knowing.
