Question:

Why do people pasteurize beer in the US and doesit really need to be kept refrigerated?

i mean seroiusly its beer, its not milk. in europe, beer is just stored on teh shelf, not in a cooer.

Answers: We pasteurize it because unfortunately the FDA requires it. Seems they don't realize that hurts the flavor. As for refrigeration...it can be stored on the shelf, that's fine, but once it has been cold, it should be kept cold becuase if not it can turn 'skunky'. And yes, American beer is much much better served ice cold. Americans prefer their beer ice cold. I'm a huge patriot but I must admit the we in America just do not do beer right. Tip of the cap to those across the pond. Budweiser in the US is not the same as Budweiser in Europe. I prefer imported beer, which again is not the same as getting it in the native country. the recipes must be changed to match the laws, I guess.

As has already been said, American beers MUST be cold to taste good.
