What makes a good beer kit? Where would I find it online?!

Question:

What makes a good beer kit? Where would I find it online?

I am buying my boyfriend a homebrewing kit for his birthday. I know very little about what is good, but I do not want something that is cheap and will taste bad. Any suggestions?

Answers: Try Defalco's Beer and Wine Supply online. They have kits that include ingredients for the first batch that start around 30 bucks or so. The folks that work there are VERY knowledgeable and great to deal with. Ask for Scott and tell him the Box Queen in Georgia recommended them! Source(s):
Bought supplies from them for beermaking for nearly 20 years! A basic home brewing set up will cost between $60-80. This will product 5 gallons of beer (about 2 cases) - make sure the kit includes the following:

6.5 Gallon Primary Fermenting Bucket, Drilled & Grommeted Lid, 6.5 Gallon Bottling Bucket with Spigot, Thermometer, Bottle Filler, Siphon, Flexible Vinyl Tubing, Hydrometer, Capper, Bottle Brush, Airlock & Sanitizer

Most kits don't include a 5 gallon stainles steel boiling pot, he'll need one of those too. (cheap ones are $20-30)

Lastly, you'll need to purchase a "complete beer kit" (this will have malt extract, priming sugar, yeast, and hops)... These run around $30.

All this stuff is available online.

There you have it, a little over $100 will get him everything he needs. Next, he'll have to do some research on youtube and blogs to find out how to brew - Though the kit will have instructions, it's a great idea to learn how the home brewing process works before diving in.

Cheers!
