How is Hookah for a non-smoker?!

Question:

How is Hookah for a non-smoker?

I am a non-smoker who has never even smoked anything. I was thinking of going to a Hookah bar this weeked. Should I expect anything as a non-smoker or expect to cough like crazy? Is this normally an activity for just smokers?

Answers: Shisha (term for the flavored tobacco ususally smoked in a hookah) tends to be a bit more delicate imo to regular cigarettes. I'm not a smoker, but I have smoked a hookah on one occasion (it wasn't at a hookah bar) and have smoked cigarettes.

Just the fact that you aren't used to having smoke in your lungs will more likely than not make you cough at some point. Just start small and your throat will get used to it to a certain point.

I can't say what an experience at a hookah bar would be like, but the flavors I had (rose and vanilla) were both very mild and I found it fairly easy to hold in without coughing like a maniac. Source(s):
personal experience make sure you take your time while hitting it and only take in as much as you can handle. btw- anything you smoke is detrimental to your health. enjoy in moderation Going to the hookah bar is a popular thing to do in the DC area with a bunch of friends. If you've never smoked before, you'll probably cough it up a bit but you'll eventually get the hang of it. The best flavors in my opinion are apple and vanilla but there isn't too much of a difference. Some people say that hookah is actually 50 times worse for you than cigarettes, which probably has some truth in it but the water at the bottom gets rid of most of the nasty chemicals. Besides, hookah is not addictive. Definitely try it if you haven't.

Hookah has nothing to do with whether you are a smoker or not. It's all a matter of preference. Most smokers won't get the same relief from hookah as they do from cigarettes since hookah has no nicotine. I have a hookah and I'm not a cigarette smoker. I have also had some of my non-smoker friends try it with me. None of us have coughed because of it. The water cools the smoke so it doesn't irritate your lungs as much.
