I have a bottle of 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in a cedar box what is it worth?!

Question:

I have a bottle of 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in a cedar box what is it worth?

Answers: Well, it depends on various factors.

1973 Napa Cabernet is considered one of the major triumph of American wine industry. It is the 1973 Napa wines (both white and red) that took triumph in the 1976 Judgement of Paris for the Americans, whose Chateau Montelena Chardonnay 1973 won the white wine competition and Stag's Leaps Cellar 1973 Cabernet won the red wine division. As a result, 1973 is considered a very good vintage.

However, you will have to see what brand of the Cabernet your wine is. If it is one of the top producers from Napa - and at that time, there are not too many as compared to today - Heitz, Chateau Montelena, Stag's Leaps, Spring Mountain, Ridge, Mondavi, etc, then your wine would be worth at least a few hundreds. It will also be depending on your record of purchase, history of posession/storage, as well as the shape of the label, foil, cork, even the box. A lesser wine may not fetch much, since the durability of the wine may be at question. The top wines probably will do fine, but the mediocre wines would be at risk of severe aging.

I would do a little home work with Google. Another good source to look for would be Robert Parker - either books or online version. If it may be worth something, then ask your local wine expert - sommelier at restaurant or wine manager at liquor store/wine bar for their opinions. Source(s):
Own a bottle of 1973 Dom Anywhere from $44 to $400

Do a search and you will know, I purchased a 1975 Merlot once for $350.00 from France.

http://www.wine-searcher.com/wine-select... Whatever someone is willing to pay for it. How has it been treated? Obviously it has been kept out of the light, but has it been kept on it's side? Has it been rotated? Was it a good wine with a promise to get better? Who made it? Call your local Vintner and ask his/her opinion! that depends on how it was stored, which winery it is from, and what people are willing to pay for it. do a little research, so you have a better idea of how much you can get for it.
