Do you find after the smoking ban ..... the pubs smell stale?
or is it me .....?
Answers: Yes totally
The smoke masked the smell of dirt and dirty carpets, cooking smells, spilled drinks and most of all peoples body odour
Answered about this recently this is what I said :

with a smoking ban pubs, bars cafes etc smell far worse.
I recently came back from a trip to Dublin Ireland were they have had a smoking ban for a while.
......... I found that I was not breathing in fresh clean air at all!
In the pubs, cafes etc I found that now the smell of people and stale food etc was not masked by smoke, everywhere smelt horrible. A disgusting mixture of peoples body odour i.e stale sweet, nauseating perfume all mixed together, farts and worse - mixed with the smell of beer and wine , cooking smells (mainly chips & deep fat frying) and other unapitising medlies.....................
And I found I prefered the old smell of cigarette smoke by far.
Going outside for air did not help at all because outside every pub, bar and cafe and on every street corner were a large amount of smokers puffing away in my face and hundreds ( well more like thousands ) of horrible cig buts littering everywhere..
I was for the ban but now have have seen - and smelt - the reality of it I am not. yeah they do, and the clubs smell of sweat. Yeah your right I think your on to something. The remains of the tobacco smoke deteriorate with time and smell like that exactly, rotten tobacco. If you keep smoking it's hard to notice. I work in anight club and the smell of cigarettesmoke did a great job of hiding the smell of BO and stale beer. Air conditioners and extractor fans will now be turned off; why waste electricity/money when there's no smoke? The same thing happened on aeroplanes, the air in those is now less clean than when people were allowed to smoke. yer they do smell funny becoz ppl have stopped smokin n now the air is gettin 2 the bar n the old smell will *** away 1st x In Scotland for the first couple of months it was exactly the same, and then freshness , any stale smell after that - change the pub you drink in. I work in a pub in Scotland and originally after the smoking ban everything smelt of stale smoke from the carpets and walls but that faded and is now gone since redecorating. But worse was everything else that had a really strong smell - BO, food, alcohol,etc... I absolutely hated it! But since then - like smoking you get more used to it although sadly very sweaty people & farting can only be masked with air freshener which I always have at the ready while working! the pubs now smell of humanity, the natural odours of the body including methane emissions, there is nothing wrong with this or the wonderful smell of cooked food. if you frequent youth bars you will get the hideous smell of the muck young people put on their bodies.
