Question:

Drinking safely.. tips??

Im going to the bahamas for my honeymoon on sunday for a week. me and my fiancee are not really drinkers but this is a time to celebrate so we may have a few drinks. any tips? i know your not suppose to mix drinks right? Dont be rude about this im just trying to be safe, thank you! :)

Answers: First, congratulations......be happy.
Never mix your drinks and for every alcoholic drink have one glass 8 ounces of water (especially in the heat). The water will keep you hydrated and also give you a slight full feeling so you will not be tempted to drink SO much.
Have a long and joyful marriage. Don't mix, yes. For me, the minute my lips get numb, is time to stop. From there, I can just go downnnnn. Watch the bartender pour your drink and keep an eye on it at all times. And its not smart to mix drinks mix drinks. Only drink one or two of whatever you're going to have and don't mix stuff. Oh and if you don't know what it is or it's flammable don't drink it. That's all I have to say. For an average sized person, stick to ONE standard drink per hour. This is about the max your liver can process.

If you are smaller, have less. Also, because they are generally smaller than men, it will take less time for a woman to become drunk, so watch yourself. If you start to feel a little dizzy or whatever (as what happens to me :P) then you should slow down or stop.

Maybe alternate, ie: One alcoholic drink, one water or soda etc.

Have fun on your honeymoon and congratulations. When ever your going to drink a drink where theres a possibility that you can get drunk, always eat a lot of protein before you start drinking. If your not a meat person, then eat a few cups of peanuts. It helps you to stay sober longer, and you should stop after two drinks just to be safe. Don't drink while it's hot! I'm constantly amazed at the myth about mixing drinks. Once and for all the ONLY active ingredient in ANY alcoholic beverage is ethyl alcohol. Mixing drinks is not dangerous nor does it make you more prone to sickness or a hangover but over consumption of ethyl alcohol does. Sweet mixed drinks containing lots of sugar or cream may lead to an upset stomach but it has nothing to do with what other drinks were consumed unless you over imbibe.
Pace yourself.
Eat high protein foods.
Drink plenty of water
Drink in moderation.
Do not do shots. Its a stupid college phenomena by where you have no control over your rate of intoxication.

These tips WILL lead to a more enjoyable time. I consistently switch between various types of beverages in one evening and I never ever get sick. Its a myth propgated by people who drink way too much and try to find a reason for their hangover the next day.
By the way greasy food is NOT a hangover cure. It actually makes it worse. Don't fall for that college myth either. Just don't drive. That's about the only thing that would be unsafe. Otherwise go nuts, it takes a lot of alcohol to get alcohol poisoning and stuff. stick to one type of main alcohol after that, for every two drinks have a full glass of water, and don't drink anything other than the water until you finished it. alcohol dehydrates the brain, aka hangover. keeping water in your system will a. make the drinking last longer (keep the good times a goin) and b. make the next morning more pleasant than otherwise. Mixing types of alcohol is secondary to getting enough moisture(aka water) into your system. Water is best. everything else is picking straws. Keep it to one drink per hour if you don't want to get drunk. One drink being a glass of wine, a beer, a shot or a mixed drink. If you are not much of a drinker, 3 drinks within and hour or hour and half you should get that "buzzed" feeling.

As far as mixing drinks, remember the phrase liquor before beer you're in the clear, beer before liquor never sicker. In other words, if you start off by drinking beer, don't start drinking liquor.

Have fun and congratulations. Alternante between an alcoholic drink and a soft drink, also stay with someone dont go off on your own, and never leave your drink unattended oh one more thing have fun ...........bahamas your so lucky !!!! I see it's already been mentioned, but definitely take your time between drinks, usually an hour or two. Don't drink too fast either. If you're having a beer or some wine, take sips, and allow your body to process the alcohol without overwhelming it. And always eat something when you drink. It helps in the absorption of alcohol. .First, congratulations........... pls don't mix and drink lot of water and and when u r done drinking drink you some Gatorade it will help with hangover!!!! { PS....have a nice tyme} "As far as mixing drinks, remember the phrase liquor before beer you're in the clear, beer before liquor never sicker. In other words, if you start off by drinking beer, don't start drinking liquor" - Is a myth created to people who drank to much and wanted to blame something else for their stupidity.

One or Two drinks per hour if you are a light drinker and either drink water between them. I usually drink two large (shaker/pint) glasses of water with some Advil right before bed.

Know your limit! Don't over do it. Drinking till you throw up is just a waste of good alcohol.
