Whats the deal with smokin cigs in NY bars?!

Question:

Whats the deal with smokin cigs in NY bars?

I remember going to a canadian club a few years back, they made the smokers go to a room, but you didnt' have to leave the premises. Wasn't sure if it is like that in NY.

I just went up there last weekend (not the city), smaller bar, everyone went outside, but there was no line / cover, so it wasn't a problem.

I was gonna go up to a club last weekend too in the city, to see cosmic gate (trance dj), thats a good 8+ hour event....from my experience with those in D.C. Once you leave you don't get back in after a certain hour..doesn't matter if you wanna pay the cover again...also a good 45 min wait in line.

Just wondering what its like in NYC

Side story, i was hoping some day to smoke in a bar in NY and get arrested then take it to the supreme court....but while talking to a cop last week...he said its not illegal to smoke in the bars, just the bars get fined and the staff can kick me out. He said if i lit a cig next to him, he'd say nothing / do nothing.

Answers: Bruce is it? Bruce, it all depends on the bar. Some bars have smoking rooms and also if the bar has a deck or patio some will section off a place to smoke outside. Maybe check the bars website. Good luck bruce.
