No perfect answer to your Q. Americans like very light flavored beers such as Bud or Coors. But you could really trip your friends with good but unique beers from Begium. Try Chimay, it is made by monks. Or Duval is nice. If you can find a Kriek (flemmish word for cherry) it is nice. It is one of only a few beers (probably all Begian) beers aged with fresh fruit, in this case cherries.

Remember these beers are unique to Belgium but a nice adventure for the American.
