Why does alcohol cause blackouts?!

Question:

Why does alcohol cause blackouts?

I had a very fun 4th of July and was drinking Heineken Light, coupled with mass quantities of Jager Bombs for the evening.

When asked if I could recall the whole night, I recanted every thing I had in my mind from the evening.
HOWEVER, there was a huge, and I mean HUGE chunk, of the night missing from my recalled memory.

What happened?? Was it a mixture of those particular drinks, or is it me?

Answers:

Jager is the only drink that's ever made me black out. No clue why, but that's been my experience.

Not to mention, when you mix booze with energy drinks, the caffeine masks the effects of the booze, so you don't wear yourself down like you would drinking other types of booze. This means you end up drinking more than you realize, and getting a lot drunker than you normally would. Also, both caffeine and alcohol are diuretics, so you're dehydrating yourself, which might be contributing to the blackouts.
