A glass of red wine a night is healthy for you as long as you do not have any health issues (such as liver disease) that prohibits you from drinking. This also goes for alcoholism, but from your question it does not sound as if this is an issue.

A basic rule of thumb is white wine with chicken, fish, light dishes, fruit, white sauces, etc. Red wine goes with meat, dishes, with red sauces, heavier meals and such.
