What's the best french red/white wine and what year?

Damn, that's a very broad question. My own PERSONAL favorite would have to be a 91 Chateau Mouton Rothschild. It was heaven in a glass. I had a 70 Chateau Haut Canteloup that was ALMOST as good as the Rothschild, but not quite. It was a bit long in the tooth, but still fantastic.
It's got to be French, does it? Okay, Louis Jadot makes a wonderful Burgundy (the last year I tried was a 92 and it was perfect).
I'm from California and I know of a few wines here that hold their own against almost anything Bordeaux or Burgundy has to offer.
