Make sure to get medical assistance if you are both physically and psychologically addicted. The friendships built in these places give support throughout your life to help maintain sobriety.
Recovery is a lifetime. Alcoholism is a progressive disease: meaning that if you drink for 10 yrs, quit for 10, then go back to it, the disease will quickly progress to the point where you will be in the same shape as drinking for 20 yrs without stopping.
Eventually, you will get to a point where the compulsion itself is rarely, if ever felt, and you will find joy again in your family, friends, life itself.
