I wanted to buy a instant wine chiller but don't want to spend the big bucks on the expensive machines.

Answers:

I use the instant wine chiller actually when I am transporting wine to wine dinner. It will keep the wine cool so when I get to the restaurant, the wine is still nice and cool. Otherwise it is not too useful.

Like Allie said, putting a wine in a regular refrigerator before opening will do much better and cheaper. If you want fast, freezer for 5-10 minutes will do. If you don't mind 10-20 minutes, you can keep in the lower part of the refrigerator.

Another cheap way to cool your wine quickly is to get a bucket with ice and water and put your wine in it, like what they do in a restaurant when they serve you champagne or white wine - that will chill wine quickly as well.
