What is good bar etiquette?!

Question:

What is good bar etiquette?

I get really nervous when I go to bars. I dont know what to order and after I order am I suppose to sit and face the bar or turn around and make small talk. When I go it is with husband and his co workers of which I have absolutely nothing in common with. I usually order margaritas since it is the only drink that I like that I can drink in moderation. I dont drink beer but I can handle my alcohol. Usually one of the guys will order a round of shots at some point. I've had starbursts but they're really sweet. I need a good drink to order that isnt to girlie girl but isnt to manly. Any advice please"?

Answers:
I am a bartender and have seen it all, well most of it. If you are with his co-workers, that's hard to say. It depends on the type of crowd they are. When ordering a drink initially, just make sure to face the bartender long enough to make sure that he/she is clear about your drink. Then, chat among the group. When you get your drink, just say thank you. If you are not paying as you go, make sure there is a tab started (check with bartender or offer to pay and they will let you know). As for what to drink, I am with you on the feminine./masc. drink thing. If you go too fufu, the sugar will give you a WICKED hangover the next day. I like sweeter drinks but nothing over the top. Try a flavored vodka drink in a tall glass, maybe raspberry vodka, soda, splash of cranberry juice. Another of my faves is Vanilla vodka with ginger ale, in a tall glass. It tastes like cream soda, goes down easy but doesn't kill you on the sweetness or look too sissified. To avoid getting sloshed and making a fool of yourself, always keep a glass of water. It does surprising things for the pace of comsumption if you alternate between the drink and the water. A nice refreshing shot is "grape kool-aid" or "grape freeze." It's grape vodka, grape pucker, sour, chilled and strained, then topped with 7up or sprite. Voila! Grape Kool-Aid. You could do bombs, usually 1 part Jagermeister or grape, cherry, or blueberry vodka (chilled, strained), topped with about 2 parts red bull. Just order a "cherry bomb" or grape bomb." The red bull energy drink will keep you from appearing tanked while keeping you into the whole shot thing. A daily fave of the customers is a Washington Apple. THAT one is Crown Royal, Apple Pucker, enough cranberry to make it red, shake, strain, and pour. They taste like apples with a whiskey warmth on the throat. Tasty and good for getting a buzz. No one can call you a wuss if you're drinking whiskey. There are lots of websites with recipes, check out the "webtender" on most cell phones or get the blue hardback book put out by Seagrams for drinks (the only blue hardback drink recipe book, found in the cookbook area of Borders bookstores). This book lists drinks in alphabetical order, categorized by their main liquor. It's got a vodka section A-Z, gin A-Z, etc.. Great if you know what liquor you like, but need a new way to drink it. Have fun!

i understand you. hope these links will help you.

If you like cocanut flavor, try some Parrot Bay on the rocks. It is made by Captain Morgan, and is a liquore. It's like 40% alcohol. Watch out, because it can sneak up on you. It's no good if mixed with anything. It tastes really good. Don't switch drinks with this. You won't feel good later, if you do.

vodka collins is what i usually drink it is a tom collins with vodka instead of gin. Then for shots i drink kamikaze. You could have a cosmopolitan kind of girly but a strong drink. Rum and coke is good and i know some that drink whiskey sour. Vodka and cranberry juice. If you are with a bunch of people i would turn around in the bar to face them all and listen to them maybe they will end up talking to you. Or suggest to your hubby before you go that you all get a table.

First of all your husband should do more to make you feel comfortable... anyways you can never go wrong with a martini and they come all sorts of ways with all kinds of alcohol or since you like margarita's you could try a tequila sunrise- that's a nice summer drink. Oh and I'd drag a friend with me next time you go out so you don't feel so awkward :)

have a martini.
have a rum and coke.
have a drink and shut up.

I'm a bartender, there is no good bar etiquette. The way I think about it is if your not having a good time the bartender should be trying to joke with you and keep you interested in comin back. Just talk and joke with the b-tender, if you like him, but the most things people drink are gold margaritas. Just drink slow and get a glass of water so if you cant handle the alc. this will help ya out. Also, make sure to snack too.

I hate to tell you, but an etiquette expert would tell you a *lady* never sits at the bar! However, you don't have much choice if you're with your husband who sits at one. You should probably face the bar unless you turn to talk to someone. Maybe you can talk to a friendly bartender if you don't like the conversation your husband is having.

A good drink for anyone is a simple highball. What's your favorite non-alcoholic beverage? If it's Coke, drink rum and Coke. Orange juice - a screwdriver. 7 Up - a 7-7. Most of the ladies I know prefer peach schnapps for a shot, but I think it's nasty.
