Basic liquors for a bar?!

Question:

Basic liquors for a bar?

I'm moving into a new house in Aug and I was just curious as to what kind of liquor should always be stocked in a bar. I have vodka, triple sec, and peach schnapps. i'm just looking for the standard ones, ones that are found in everything.

Answers:

Alot will depend on what you drink, what your friends drink and what people you invite over drink.
Most of the answers here are good.
Scotch, bourbon, vodka, rum, gin and tequila are the basic items, like you would find in a bartender's speedrack. You might go with J&B Scotch, Jack Daniel's, Absolute, Barcardi, Bombay, and Cuervo as basic name brands. To be upscale, you can spend more and buy top shelf for these. You may also want to get a Canadian whiskey such as Crown Royal or Canadian Club.
You have triple sec and peach schnapps for liqoures. You might add some Gran Marnier, Kahlua, Amaretto, Frangelico, Bailey's Irish Cream, and Tuaca. At least get the Kahlua and the Bailey's.
Then you need stock some mixers. Coke, 7-Up, milk and orange juice are basic. Add pineapple juice, margarita mix, cranberry juice, maybe some Red Bull if the crowd is younger. Tonic water is a must for gin and tonics.
Keep a can of coconut cream such as Coco Lopez. Try to always a couple of limes and lemons on hand.
And buy a good bartending book such as Boston's.
There is a whole lot more you can buy but you can easily break the bank. Read up on bartending and think of what your guests may drink.
Hope that this helps some!
