English wine ? did anyone taste it?!

Question:

English wine ? did anyone taste it?

I heard the English make Wine now - did anyone taste it ?

Answers:

Yes, of course. I have tasted many English wines and visited several vineyards and wineries.

There are around 400 vineyards in England and Wales and one of the largest vineyards in Europe is Denbies, just south of London, with some 265 acres growing 13 different varieties. Denbies have a large modern winery - many of the English vineyards just grow grapes and the wine is made elsewhere.

Most English wine is white. Because of the northerly positioning they make wines with good acidity, and make good crisp white wines from varieties that can be rather flabby in Europe.

But the greatest successes have been with methode champenois sparkling wines, made from the same varieties (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier) as used in Champagne, and grown on the same chalk seam that runs from Champagne.

Not sure how much more you want to know -- have a look at http://www.english-wine.com (the site from which Cister copied and pasted their answer), also http://www.denbiesvineyard.co.uk...
