Question:

We are going to celebrate with champagne but how do you open it the fun way?

me and my family are thinking of buying some champagne to celebrate a special occasion but i dont know how to open it "the fun way" like it pops really high and all the foam comes out and all that any suggestions?

Answers:

Yes.

Try sabrage

This is where you use a sabre to slice off the top of the bottle.

You don't need a sword, a large knife will do and it doesn't have to be sharp*.

Remove the foil.

Find the seam in the bottle.

Hold the bottle in one hand at an angle pointing away from you and with no one in front.

Slide the knife along the bottle seam in one smooth motion and as it hits the lip of the bottle the top will shear off with the cork and wine will spout out.

It is pressure in the bottle and the weakness of the glass, rather than cutting the glass that causes the effect.

I suggest you try before the event on an inexpensive bottle. Make sure you get a wine made by the Champagne method (because that has higher inside pressure), an inexpensive Spanish Cava will do.

*in fact any edge with work, even the base of a wine glass, but a large knife or sabre is more impressive !
